          I had such a great afternoon on Friday when a group of watercolour artists from Virginia in the USA who are on a painting trip in Napier.

          As a Primary School teacher, I have taught art at all levels, always
          encouraging students to express themselves in ways that reflect their
          cultural identity and drawing attention to the colours and patterns in
          nature and their environment.
          Over recent years I have been invited to various schools throughout
          Hawke’s Bay to take workshops with students, based on my koru
          artworks.
          In recent years, I have embarked on my own art journey and my
          choice of medium is watercolour which I find both challenging and
          rewarding.

          I sometimes make use of inks, pastels, and pencils in my
          artworks. I am particularly interested and excited by creating texture
          in my paintings and enjoy experimenting in this area.
          I am self-taught and have had no formal art training.
          My love of the New Zealand landscape and an awareness of the
          fragility of our environment, together with an interest in
          photography, provide me with a rich source of ideas and inspiration
          for my paintings.
